Move data without guessing what was copied

Phone Data Transfer Center

A transfer is not the same thing as a backup, and a synced account is not necessarily a complete copy. This center helps you inventory what matters, use the phone maker's supported transfer path, and verify the new phone before the old one is erased.

Safety and privacy first

Never post account passwords, recovery codes, full IMEI numbers, or private files into a transfer tool. Keep the old phone unchanged until you have opened important data on the new phone and confirmed that account-recovery methods work.

Backed up, transferred, synced, or not recoverable

A backup is a restorable copy managed by a service or computer. A transfer copies supported data directly or through a temporary cloud process. Sync keeps selected account data consistent. Some app data, authenticator secrets, locally stored files, and protected media may require separate handling or may not transfer.

  • List photos, contacts, messages, notes, files, health data, authenticator access, and important app data before starting.
  • Verify the source phone has enough power, storage, and a stable connection.
  • Do not assume an app icon means the app's private data transferred.

Choose the supported transfer path

Use Apple Quick Start or Move to iOS for a new iPhone, Google's setup transfer for Android, or Samsung Smart Switch for a supported Galaxy phone. Exact support varies with the source device, cable, account, region, app, and software version.

  • Keep both phones nearby and connected to power.
  • Prefer the setup-time transfer flow when the manufacturer recommends it.
  • For eSIM, follow the carrier and manufacturer instructions; cellular service may require carrier reprovisioning.
  • For WhatsApp and other encrypted apps, use the current in-app transfer or backup instructions from that service.

Verify before erasing the old phone

Open representative items rather than checking only totals. Confirm recent photos, a long message thread, contacts, calendars, downloaded files, voice recordings, and any irreplaceable app data.

  • Test calls, messages, mobile data, and two-factor authentication on the intended phone.
  • Confirm cloud sync has finished and the new phone has enough free storage.
  • Keep a verified backup until the return or trade-in is complete.
  • Erase only after activation locks and account-removal requirements are understood.
