TELUS Canada phone unlock guide
TELUS customers are covered by Canada's Wireless Code unlocking protections. This guide separates that rule from SIM, eSIM and device compatibility.
Policy reviewed · Last verified 2026-10-02
Canadian providers must supply new devices unlocked. A provider must also unlock a device tied to an ongoing customer contract, on request and without a charge.
Carrier overview
TELUS is a national Canadian mobile network operator. The regulatory rule is market-wide, but plans, support channels and device compatibility remain provider-specific.

Does TELUS lock phones?
A phone supplied by a Canadian wireless provider from 1 December 2017 onward should have been provided unlocked. Older or used phones can still need a status check.
Who is eligible for an unlock?
- The CRTC rule covers individual and small-business wireless customers.
- A device tied to an ongoing service contract must be unlocked on request at no charge.
How to request or confirm an unlock
- For an older locked device, contact the provider connected to the ongoing service contract and ask it to apply the Wireless Code rule.
- Keep the full IMEI private until you are using the provider's genuine support channel.
- After any change, restart the phone and test a compatible SIM or eSIM.
iPhone, Android and unlock codes
An unlock changes a network restriction; it does not guarantee radio-band, VoLTE or eSIM compatibility.
An iPhone normally receives a carrier-side activation-policy change rather than a numerical unlock code.
SIM and eSIM information
Physical SIM and eSIM availability is separate from network-lock status. Confirm support for the exact device and plan with the provider.
If the unlock or SIM test fails
- Update the phone before testing another SIM.
- If service still fails, distinguish a network-lock message from APN, coverage, SIM and compatibility errors.
Questions
Is the TELUS Canada unlock policy confirmed?
The claims on this page are tied to the cited carrier or regulator sources. Recheck the official policy before acting because requirements can change.
Does TELUS use an unlock code?
The method depends on the exact device and policy. Do not guess or buy a code based only on the carrier name.
Can GetMyUnlock approve an unlock?
No. Only the carrier can confirm eligibility and perform or authorize a network unlock.
